Abisara niya Fruhstorfer, 1914
SUMMARY
See Butterfly Circle and Samui Butterflies (Information Pages).
The genus Abisara belongs to the family Riodininae. The butterflies are usually coloured a deep crimson brown, and has a characteristic way of flitting from leaf to leaf with half-opened wings. Abisara geza niya is one of three species of the genus to have been observed in Singapore in recent years - the other being Abisara savitri savitri and Abisara saturata kausamboides. It can usually be found in shaded forest fringes, but is rather rare. The butterfly is easily recognised by the pale subapical patch of the forewing and the black submarginal spots on the hindwing.
