Theme and logo

When I first started the site, as suggested in the task guide, I was keen to make the site theme and logo unique. I have had quite a few problems doing this, due to my lack of experience with website building.

Changing the logo

The first logo I added was too big, and it covered the entire area of the page. This presented a problem because I couldn't navigate back through the menus to change the image because the massive logo was blocking them. I emailed Irina on the scratchpad team and she told me how to fix this. In Firefox (and there must be similar options with other browers) you need to navigate to the "Tools" menu and select "Page info". A new window will appear, and you can select "Media". In this window is a box labelled "Block images from ...." which should be checked. Once this box is checked you will then see the pages without images, so it is possible to go through the scratchpad menus and remove the oversized image.

I tried adding smaller logos, but everytime the large image would show back up again, and I would have to go through the process of "Tools>Page Info>Media>...." to remove the file again. In the end I resorted to leaving the site with the defaults. However, the small logo I wanted has now appeared on the site! So, maybe its just a case of Scratchpads resetting periodically and correcting these kind of things. I think the same thing happened with my Taygetis scratchpad when I had problems customizing the logo.

Changing the theme

I was experimenting with the themes and inadvertently choose one which doesn't show the log in box on the front page. I was stumped on how to access the site. Well, again thanks to very quick reply from Irina, you can log on through URL.../user (so in my case http://malaysiabutterflies.myspecies.info/user). I quickly changed the site back to the default "Garland". I was also told that when Scratchpads is updated to the new version (~April) all the themes will be updated too, so there is not much point tweaking with it until then.
